2023-2025 Voice of America Thai Service (VOA Thai)

I worked as an international multimedia reporter for the Thai Service of a U.S. congressionally funded news agency with a weekly global reach of over 360 million. My role included covering daily news, co-hosting shows, producing a podcast, and delivering feature and investigative reports in both Thai and English.

Text samples

A feature about a Chinese scam in Thailand that preyed upon their fellow Chinese tourist. Words from Thailand’s then-deputy Police chief, the tourist authority, and a guide provide insight into the dark corner of the recovering tourism industry.

An investigation of a person sanctioned for alleged support of the late Wagner Group leader, Evgeni Prigozhin. I utilized an open source technologies to identify his scattered assets in Thailand. A team was also sent to check on those places and authorities were reached out in a well-rounded fashion.

An interview with ‘Mumdew’, a Thai influencer known for cosplaying the Kingdom’s late queen. The story from their country of asylum shed light on the motive behind the cosplay, and controversy of Thailand royal defamation law.

Podcast

A podcast aims to hit on Thailand’s issues in focus that also occur in the U.S., such as contraband, California wildfires, or education debt. My responsibility stretches throughout pre-production, co-hosting, and post-production. The show garnered over 200k viewership in total, with each episode ranging from thousands to hundreds of thousands of views.

Report from the White House

I was vetted into the White House for an on-camera report over the U.S. 2024 Election and its significance to global agenda. Materials were rounded up from many sources and voice-over in a comprehensive analysis style.

High-profile interview

An interview with Anand Panyarachun, former Prime Minister of Thailand on the 2023 general election aftermath. His comment on the changing political landscape in the first poll after a decade under a military regime and what turmoil lies ahead garnered over 200k viewers on YouTube.

In-dept feature

A video feature on how Thailand’s anti-scam Starlink crackdown impacts humanitarian work in war-torn Myanmar. It has attracted over 220k views on Facebook and almost 90k on YouTube. I participated in interviewing, scriptwriting, and voiceover work. The video was made by a producer.

Vertical content

I adapted long-form reports into brief and simple explainer vertical presentations on YouTube and Facebook, which some have attracted hundreds of thousands of views, informing stories that matter in an interesting manner.

News anchor

In the course of two years at VOA Thai, I have been trained and made familiar with reading news in a compact studio meant for online and radio-on-TV programs. I co-hosted The Daily Show two days a week, in which I read a wide variety of news with different moods and tones as needed.

Work samples

A Thailand-Cambodia cross-border investigation over the abduction of a Thai activist in Phnom Penh. It disputes the Cambodian government’s claim that the disappearance did not happen. It received an outstanding award in the 2021 Human Rights Media Award by Amnesty International Thailand.

An exclusive, cross-border investigation after “What Happened to Wanchalearm”,
we delved deeper and unearthed information that answer how and why this activist’s trace of existence was removed and made forgotten shortly after his abduction – which gives this story an exclusive angle on the whole unsolved incident.

I participated in ‘Suisse Secret’, an international investigative project involving leaked Credit Suisse account holder data. Almost 170 reporters from 48 media outlets in 39 countries worldwide were involved in analyzing 18,000 account leaks which some related to dictators, spies, and figures responsible for massive human rights abuse.

A feature that optimizes open sources, academic work, and interviews to map where the Thai military has been exploiting to gain wealth and power. Published during the time of military rule, it received a large readership and quoted in other media.
